The figure begins with left-to-right + right-to-left hand hold. Lady's hands rest palms down on man's hands. The man dances under his right arm turning 180° counterclockwise. The lady turns 180° clockwise.

After this figure the man's right hand rests palm down on the lady's left hand. If the man then lays his left hand palm down on the lady's right hand, the couple is ready to dance the gate (see video). Similarly, after the gate the hand hold matches the start of the window.
