Promenade walk is a prototype of a class of figures that share the similar pattern: step, extend, slip, in the rhythm 1 & 2. The first step, on 1, is a normal step. On the second step, at &, the other leg is extended backwards or to the side. Only part of the weight is transferred to the extended foot. The third step, on beat 2, is a short slip or turn on the foot that carries most of the weight. The slip is assisted by the foot of the extended leg.
